Stockholm, August 16, 2021 – Intervacc AB (\u201cIntervacc\u201d) announced today that the European Commission has granted a Marketing Authorisation for Strangvac\u00ae within the European Union. Strangvac\u00ae is a vaccine against equine strangles, a highly contagious infectious disease that affects horses globally.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

\u201cWe are happy that Strangvac has received the European Commission\u2019s approval\u201d<\/em> explained Andreas Andersson, CEO of Intervacc. \u201cStrangvac is the first Swedish Animal Health vaccine to be approved through the centralised procedure and we feel great responsibility to spread the use the vaccine to improve the health of horses across the European Union.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cStrangvac does not contain any live bacteria and is given to horses by intramuscular injection,\u201d<\/em> continued Emma Hartman, DVM and global product manager for the vaccine. \u201cVaccination generates an immune response against several different proteins from the bacteria Streptococcus equi, which causes strangles, but does not trigger any of the available diagnostic tests for strangles, so it can be used alongside current strategies as an important tool to reduce the impact of this devastating disease.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The approval of Strangvac for use in Europe is a breakthrough for this new generation of vaccines\u201d<\/em>, explains Dr Tim Wood, Head of CMC and Regulatory at Intervacc. \u201cThe proteins in Strangvac can simultaneously target several disease-causing mechanisms in a very selective manner. In the future, this technology has terrific potential to prevent many different diseases of animals.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
